When assembling a diff you will have to set both the pinion height and the pinion preload using shims, the genuine ones are about £ 6-8 each if available and there are about 20 in each range, the genuine ones are single shims but we have made a set of 8 shims in each range which can be stacked in different combinations to achieve the required thickness. There are 8 shims in each range, 16 in total, one of each, thicknesses are, 0.05, 0.1, 0.2, 0.3, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0mm. Always use as few as possible to achieve the required thickness. When setting the pinion preload always fit the thickest shim on the pinion first.
